The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will conduct the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) ON 18 December 2011. CSIR-UGC NET Exam 2011 is being conducted for determining the eligibility of the Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science. CSIR-UGC NET Exam 2011 is especially organized for the science stream in the following areas:

  • Chemical Sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physical Sciences

The Life Sciences and Mathematical Sciences papers will be held in the morning session from 9:00 am till 12:00 pm. While the afternoon session will comprise the Chemical Sciences paper, the Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences paper and Physical Sciences paper from 2.00 PM-5.00 PM.

Eligibility:

Candidates who will satisfy the following conditions are eligible for the exam:

  • M.Sc. or Equivalent degree under Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, with minimum 55% marks for General & OBC Candidates; 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D. degree holders who had passed Master's degree prior to 19th September 1991.

Age Limit:

  • For JRF (NET): Minimum 19 Years and maximum 28 years as on 01-07-2011 (upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years

 

  1. As in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC(Non Creamy Layer), Physically handicapped/Visually handicapped and female applicants).
  • For LS (NET): Minimum 19 years, as on 01.07.2011. No upper age limit

This exam basically consists of three parts and comprises 200 marks which must be completed within duration of 3 hours. The question paper will divided into 3 parts - Part A, B and C. The Part A comprise General Science, Quantitative Reasoning & Analysis and Research Aptitude category.The second section i.e. Paper B contains subject-related conventional MCQ's or Multiple Choice Questions while the third part or Paper C contains questions for testing the candidate's knowledge of scientific concepts and their applications. The questions are purely analytical and a candidate needs to apply their scientific knowledge for reaching to a particular solution.

Negative marking is applicable, for every wrong answer 25% of the marks will be deducted.
