CUCET 2022: What is CUCET exam?

CUCET stands for Central University Common Entrance Test. CUCET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into UG courses in the participating Central Universities.

The first CUCET for admissions to 42 central Universities is expected to be conducted between June and July. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon be releasing the official notification regarding the same. It must be noted that the CUCET will be conducted in 12 scheduled languages- Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi. The exam will be conducted in 15 test centers across the country. The test will be computer-based and will have two sections; i.e. computer aptitude test and domain-specific test.

CUCET exam 2022 will streamline the admission process and help students with low marks in board exams to also take admission to the university of their choice. While we will be adopting the CUCET, we are also planning to keep the decentralized admission process in place, however, it all depends on the higher education regulator nod, said Basuthkar Jagadeeshwar Rao, VC, UoH.

CUCET 2022: Exam Pattern

In order to ace in NTA CUCET 2022 exam, it is very much necessary for students to know the CUCET exam pattern. The CUCET Entrance Exam was earlier conducted in pen-and-paper mode. However, now the CUCET entrance exam will be held online as CBT (Computer Based Test).

The duration of the exam will be 2 hours with 100 Multiple Choice Questions. For every correct answer, a candidate will be awarded 1 mark and for every incorrect attempt, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CUCET 2022: Answer Key

Candidates must note that CUCET Answer Key will be released through online mode. The provisional answer key will be released by the NTA for all the students. With the help of the answer key, candidates will be able to calculate their marks even before the result declaration.

Candidates will also be given the option to make objections regarding the answer key. It must be noted that no candidate will be allowed to make an objection once the final answer key is released.

CUCET 2022: List of participating colleges

CUCET was supposed to be conducted last year, however, it was not implemented in all the Universities due to the Pandemic. The 42 Universities that will be offering admissions based on the CUCET 2022 are Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jamia Milia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University, Visva Bharati University, Central University of Tamil Nadu, University of Hyderabad, Central University of Kerala, North Eastern Hill University, Central University of Punjab, among others.

While speaking to Shiksha, the Dean of Colleges, Delhi University, Balram Pani said, β€œLast year, as the board examination was not conducted, many students with good marks were not able to secure seat in Delhi University. Some state boards gave students 100 per cent marks in board exams even when the main examination was not conducted. In order, to bring a common platform for all, it was mandatory to revise the admission process. Hence, the University decided to adopt the CUCET from 2022.”

CUCET 2022: DU Admissions

CUCET for DU Admissions 2022 will bring relief to a lot of students who have been demanding entrance exams to get admission to the varsity. In order to ensure a smooth transition, Delhi University has also formed an 8-member panel for the implementation of this entrance test.

While the varsity will adopt CUCET for UG courses, the admission for post-graduate and PhD courses will be conducted on the basis of DUET for the academic year 2022-23. DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said, β€œAdmissions to Post Graduate and PhD programmes for the academic session 2022-23 of the University of Delhi shall be on the basis of the Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) as per past practice. Further details related to admissions shall be released soon.”

The CUCET is expected to provide not only equal opportunity to all students but also hope to many who have scored less in Board exams but can perform better in the entrance exams. Raghavendra P Tiwari, VC, Central University of Punjab, said, β€œ  With all central universities across the country taking into account the CUCET score for admission, students will get an equal platform. Like NEET, JEE, the CUCET will also have the counseling process and will be merit-based. This will help a lot of students to get admission to the University of their choice.”

It must be noted that CUCET was conducted by 14 central universities until now. The eligibility criteria for the exam for undergraduate courses is 55 per cent of marks in class 12th for the general applicants and 45 per cent marks for the reserved applicants.
