Govt Rejects Proposal To Hike IIT Fee By Five Times!
In a huge relief for engineering aspirants, the Human Resource Development Ministry has refused to hike IIT fee from Rs 50,000 per annum to Rs 2.5 lakh per annum, as recommended by the five-member Anil Kakodkar Committee.

CCEA Approves Rs 322 Crore To Set Up World-Class Drug Research Institute At Lucknow
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has recently approved Rs.322.51 crore to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to set up a world-class drug research institute at Lucknow. The facility would have all the infrastructure to facilitate research and innovation in the area of drug discovery and development.

Nirma University Will Switch Only To AIEEE For Admission To Its Programs
Nirma University, which used to accept scores of Gujarat Common Entrance Test - GUJCET and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for admission to its undergraduate admission programs, will now rely solely on AIEEE from the current academic session. Students of Gujarat will also have to clear AIEEE to get into Nirma from this academic year.

Geriatric Medicine To Be Taught In Ten Medical Colleges In Karnataka
Karnataka Govt has announced to launch post-graduate courses in Geriatric Medicine in 10 medical colleges from the next academic year. These programs will be considered a sub-specialty of internal medicine as they focus on the healthcare of elderly people.

XIMR Launches Centre For Africa Studies
The Xavier Institute of Management and Research (XIMR) in Mumbai has recently launched ‘Centre for Africa Studies' in association with Makerere University Business School of Uganda. Initially, it will cater to students pursuing their masters programme in management studies in the institute. Later, it will also offer programmes to corporate houses and professionals who would like to prepare for international assignments in Africa.

BPNI Fumes Over Nestle Signing A Secret Pact With Four Universities To Promote Its Products
The Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) has been a whistleblower to bring to light the secret pacts of Nestle India, one of the leading food brands in the country, with four national universities - Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana; National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana; University of Mysore in Karnataka; and the GB Pant University for Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, to promote its products in their nutrition awareness programs in government run schools. The confidential MoUs were signed back in 2009 as part of Nestle's brand promotion programs through the public education system.
