Glitches found in DU marking system
In an extraordinary feat, over 30 students of Chemistry (H) across various colleges in DU scored more than the maximum marks allotted. One DU student scored 520 out of 500, as shown in the result. The glitch came out as a result of the failure of the software being used by the university in which the total marks are indicated as 500 instead of 550. The marks puzzle resolved itself when the marks were added up manually.
The Hindustan Times reported, Naveen Gaur who is a Physics professor in Dyal Singh College, questions the quality and efficiency of the software used in the tabulation of marks, as such errors should have been pointed out by the computer. This year, teachers filled out OMR sheets to indicate the marks of each student. But DU seems to have made some blunder mistakes as it did not notice that the maximum marks were wrong and above that, students were getting more marks than the maximum marks.
However, DU officials waves off the blunder as a minor error. A university official, who did not want to disclose his name; told HT that it was a small error that will be rectified soon.
Moreover, the teachers are indignant with the university regarding the semester results which came out at the end of 2011. Even though, the results seem to improve than usual, teachers are indignant that marks were given out freely to even those who did not deserve them, to augment the appeal of the semester system. A significant point to be noted is that three students scored 99% in the Economics (honors) first semester results that were declared at the end of December. (Read more...)
