The speed at which we are all moving, talking, and being, online, is what makes this the zig-zag age.

Today is a segment of, what I shall call- the zig.zag age. Touch phones, i phones, tablets, mac books, Google, Gmail, Facebook, Word press, and what not! We are all up there on the internet, online, visible, and under public gaze, all the time! The pace at which our identities move on the Internet is phenomenal. Data gets transferred in a matter of seconds. Marie from Philadelphia comes to know about Zahran from Riyadh in a flash all together. This "speed" at which we are all moving, talking, and being, online, is what makes this the zig-zag age.

Social Networking Sites Have Revolutionized the Way Individuals Look at Themselves

Technology fuels one's notions of what constitutes a reality. A geek may choose to become a stud, and a teenage girl may don the role of a menopausal woman. Social networking sites have maneuvered the way technology functions. Being quick, smart and dynamic, sites such as Facebook and Word press are now becoming increasingly popular with corporates and other small scale businesses.

The way your Facebook profile is packaged, determines the number of friends you'd have. In other words, no matter the kind of enterprise, small budgeted or otherwise, it would be able to garner enough traffic if there is an enigmatic representation of itself on the internet. Right from creating pages, communities to profiles, social networking sites are revamping and adding glamour to the so called serious professional arena.

The internet therefore becomes a space that provides to one, an alternate identity. An identity that may bring success- personally and professionally. Though one may read into this alternate reality as being superficial, it is important to not underscore the multifariousness of one's (an individual's or a corporate body's) being. Admittedly, its about one's exhibitionism in another way, but this may not necessarily be fake. It's more about exploring the self (whether professionally or personality) in a way which is entirely novel, even to oneself.

Technology, therefore, becomes an essential part of our everyday living, no matter how virtual the medium (in this context), may seem like. Living beyond it, we live in it.
