CBSE is aiming to reinforce the education system through value education.

 It seems that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will kick off the 2012-2013 academic session with various additional features in the curriculum of class IX to XII students.

CBSE's educational process comprises co-scholastic areas of life-skills, attitude and values, sports and games along with co-curricular activities. In addition to this, CBSE is aiming to reinforce the education system through value education. Therefore, the board will introduce value-based questions in the papers of final examinations in all major subjects for classes XI and XII starting this academic session, reported Times of India.

CBSE also have plans to integrate value education to subjects studied by class IX and X students, reported India Today. According to a CBSE official, the current model of education isolates heart from the head. Apart from gaining subject knowledge, students should also be taught how to live their lives and contribute to the welfare of the nation.

The board has collaborated with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in designing a value education framework. (Read more)

Accordinfg to Ram Shankar, joint director, CBSE, the curricula cutting across subjects should inculcate values in explicit terms and the assessment schemes should also reciprocate by assigning a weighting to value-based items. The board has also come out with handbooks on value education for teachers. CBSE had also issued a teacher's manual on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in 2009 (revised in 2011) which is also based on principles and values advocated in the Constitution of India. CBSE will give 5% weightage in major subjects on the basis of the values reflected by the subject. The board has requested all its affiliated schools to make it a part of their assessment in class XI, Karnail Singh, secretary, CBSE told TOI.

Students will soon be able to check out the sample question papers in all major subjects of classes XI and XII on the academic website (www.cbseacademic .in).
