Punjab Univ offers offbeat programmes
Punjab University has made a paradigm shift in the type of courses it offers. Going beyond conventional courses that it used to offer, the university is now introducing offbeat programmes to keep pace with the changing times and students' preference.
Recently, the university has launched a number of offbeat courses in social sciences. Admissions for these courses have already begun. The last date to apply is July 2, 2012. The latest offerings from the university include MA in Community Education and Development, B.Ed (Special Education with Specialization in Learning Disabilities), Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management and also Home Land Security.
Community education is an interdisciplinary course that will help students in understanding various issues pertaining to community development at the national as well as at the global level. This program aims to equip students with an understanding of the overall development of society and the issues related to a community's development. The focus areas of the course will also include building human resources for society's benefit by establishing partnerships with the civil society and various NGOs.
This course is expected to provide good career prospects for students. On the successful completion of the program, one can start his/her career as a counselor in educational institutions or as facilitators in suitable government organizations and NGOs, as public health educators, human rights activists and so on.
The department for defence studies launched two post-graduate diploma programmes in disaster management and homeland security.
The B.Ed (Special Education with Specialization in Learning Disabilities) course will help students in developing their teaching skills, especially for physically disabled children by integrating them into regular schools.
