Tech colleges in the dock for defying AICTE rules
By Madiha Jawed
Four engineering colleges were recently stroked by Rajasthan Technical University for breaking the AICTE norms. In its attempt to control the quality of education, RTU slapped a notice to these colleges running M-Tech courses but failing to stick the norms.
Shekawati College of Engineering (Dunlod), Shree Balagi College of Engineering and Technology (Jaipur), Siddivinayak College of Science and Technology (Alwar) and Srinath Institute of Technology and Engineering are the four institutes under RTU's scrutiny.
The notice mainly reveals the insufficiency met by these colleges including lack of qualified faculty, a dedicated lab for M-Tech students and regular classes. RTU's Board of Inspection found several deficiencies in the engineering colleges. The institutes were cautioned to correct the deficiencies and failing to do so would lead to the cancellation of their affiliation by the university. Besides this, the representatives of these colleges were also beckoned by RTU at Kota and were acquainted with the situation. It was only when these representatives did not comply that the notice was served.
However, these four colleges showed no signs of improvement after their summon. An RTU official was alleged saying "The body found that scarcity of teachers is a major problem. In many colleges, less qualified teachers are teaching M-Tech students, which is a gross violation of AICTE norms. He further said that they are working in tandem with AICTE and will have zero tolerance on colleges which are not following the norms. (Read complete story)
