Now Fake educational institutions will be under the eagle eye of AICTE and UGC.

Strict rules have been made by government for fake educational institutions. University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will keep an eagle eye on fake educational institutions and the unapproved technical institutions. Recently, UGC has identified 21 fake universities/institutions in various parts of the country.

21 universities has been found under this delinquency of the UGC Act, 1956, out of which 8 are located in Uttar Pradesh, 6 are based in Delhi, and 1 each in Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.

Likewise, AICTE had found 348 institutions providing technical and management courses/programmes in contravention of the AICTE rules and regulations, dated 6th January 2005. The total number of fake institutions identified by the AICTE is from the various parts of the country like 75 each from Delhi and Maharashtra, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 34 in West Bengal, 30 in Uttar Pradesh, 26 in Karnataka, 17 in Haryana, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 9 in Chandigarh, 4 in Gujarat, 2 each in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Goa and 1 each in Uttrakhand and Kerala.

Serious legal actions have been taken by the UGC in various courts against 6 of these fake universities. Some of the State Governments has also taken serious actions against such fake universities. UGC has served show-cause notice to some of the fake universities/institutions and AICTE has asked them for closure of their programme.

Every year to keep a watch on such fake educational institutions, UGC and AICTE publicize through print media/electronic media as well as through their official website, warning students and parents not to take admission in fake and unapproved institutions.

Few years back, a public ‘Appeal' was issued by the Ministry to notify students that they should cross check the institute and courses offered before taking admission and in case of any doubt, necessary clarification may be obtained from the relevant statutory bodies, such as the UGC, AICTE.

Beware students! Check all the details and then apply for the course because it's the matter of your future...
