• Accreditation: Online courses that hold good accreditation are highly rated.

• Certification: Courses that provide certification are more popular amongst students. If a free course provides valid certification, then it adds on to the high rating of that course.

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and India's premier institutions like IITs and IISc. It provides free online courses across a wide range of subjects, including engineering, science, management, and humanities. The platform offers video lectures, assignments, and lecture notes for free, and learners can opt for certification exams for a nominal fee to enhance their resumes and job prospects.

OpenClassrooms offers free courses with limitations.  You will not be able to obtain certificates with the free option, but there is no limit to learning. It is ideal to take the Premium Solo option that comes with a monthly 20 Euro fees. With this fees, there is no limit to certifications or learning on OpenClassrooms.  

Eligibility for enrolling in BCS online courses depends on the certification level:

• Foundation Level – Open to anyone with basic IT knowledge; no prior experience required.

• Practitioner Level – Requires some prior knowledge or experience in the relevant IT domain. Some certifications may recommend a Foundation-level qualification first.

• Advanced and Professional Levels – Generally need several years of experience in the industry and, in some instances, prerequisite certifications.

For professional certifications such as CITP, applicants are required to show practical experience and IT competence.

Salesforce offers most of its courses for free from Trailhead Academy where you can follow Trailmixes, but the certification exams and live instructor-led prep training are not free.
