AICTE endorses GMAT for Globalization of management education
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is planning to allow Indian B-schools to accept graduate management aptitude test (GMAT) scores for giving admissions to the students. It is a positive step taken by the government in order to promote foreign admissions in Indian B-schools.
As per the approval guidelines of the AICTE for the academic year 2012-13, it has been predetermined that institutes offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management shall admit students on the basis of their valid score of CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, GMAT and CMAT. GMAT is well recognized in more than 110 countries.
There are about 3000+ B-schools in India and after the implementation of this decision, it will be easy to attract international students. Previously, b-schools used to conduct their own individual tests for admissions. In addition to this, IITs have decided to scrap off JMET this year and have decided to use CAT scores to offer admissions in the management courses. According to a notification by the AICTE, now JMET will be replaced by GMAT.
The AICTE decision to accept the GMAT scores came as a positive step towards the globalization of management education in India. This decision will help Indian B-schools in attracting international students as well as it will give an extraordinary opportunity to these institutes to place themselves as an international brand.
