AICTE to conduct national level management exam for B-schools in February 2012
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is all set to conduct its first ever Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for admission to all management institutes approved by AICTE. This test is scheduled from 20th to 28th February, 2012 and it will be conducted online in 61 cities. This exam will provide admission to over 4000 business schools across the country. The test will be held for about four lakh management seats across the country. 
About 2.5 lakh students across India are likely to appear for first ever CMAT. It will replace the existing state level and national level entrance exams for management courses except CAT. The score of CMAT will not be applicable for admissions into Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other 178 B-schools. This exam has been launched by AICTE in order to reduce the physical, mental, and financial burden on students. The number of entrance examinations used to create a lot of pressure on students.
Format of CMAT 2012:
CMAT is going to be computer based test (CBT) and you will have to appear in this exam in a pre-assigned computer in the test venue. The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours and it will be held twice daily in morning and afternoon. This exam will have 4 sections:
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation
- Language Comprehension
- General Awareness
Each of the section will have 25 questions that add up to 100 marks in total. There shall be negative marking for wrong answers, for each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted.
Eligibility criteria for CMAT 2012
Should be a graduate in any discipline (even final year students can also apply).
Registration Process
You can register online for the exam and it has been said earlier that there will be no offline form for this exam. The candidates can select up to three cities (in order of preference) for taking the exam. The registration fee is Rs. 1200. The mode of payment is Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card (through www.aicte-cmat.in) OR by cash payment, through the challan generated online by the candidate. The cash can be deposited in ANY branch of State Bank of India.
Admit card for the same can be downloaded from the official website from 30th January, 2012 onwards.
CMAT Trial Tests
According to AICTE, candidates can take trial tests for first CMAT. The CMAT Trial tests will be available from 12 December 2011 onwards on the exam website www.aicte-cmat.in.
