It’s business as usual, the Hindustan Time Best – B School in India survey finds that despite the strides made by private institution, government run or aided management schools still dominate the top 10 list.

It’s that the time of the year again. Around this time every year millions of bright aspiring young- and not so young – minds step up efforts to gain entry into one of a handful of A-league business schools across the country.

But which schools are really the best? And how do various stake-holders – like alumni, recruiters and faculty-rate them? Hindustan Time carried out a survey on Best B- Schools in India. It ranks B- Schools on 22 discrete parameters.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahemdabad, widely rated as India’s best B- School, comes on the top. But, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and IIM-Bangalore rank higher among recruiters at 2 and 3, respectively.

Then, the survey finds that despite the strides made by private institutions, the government run or aided schools still dominated the Top 10 list. That’s the largely because of four IIMs and one IIT (Delhi).

Here, we are bringing for you some of the experiences and stories of all top schools which top the chart with maximum marks and appeal to aspiring MBA students.

Schools for Leaders: Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad

What is it that keeps IIM-A on top in survey after survey and year after year?

The intensity of the courses is what separates IIM-A from the rest, seems to be the unanimous opinion of students, faculty, alumni and recruiters.

The intensity and cohesiveness of the courses which differentiate IIM-A from rest of the B-Schools, seems to be the undisputed opinion of the students about faculty, alumni and recruiters.

The case study approach (derived from Harvard Business School) meticulously mastered by the IIMA, (which all other B-schools now emulate) not only involves stories of big companies like Infosys but of the ordinary man on ground like a chaiwala outside the IIM gate. Unlike other institutes, the pedagogy revolves around the case study approach, which is supplemented by classroom lectures, seminars and with new batches coming in with new concepts the cases are refurbished every year.

The global recession and the slowdown in the Indian market has taken a toll on average salaries received by IIM-A graduates this year. But it hasn’t really changed students’ preferences on specialisation.
