EPSI sends legal notice to AICTE on CMAT
By Richha Bhatnagar
The Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) has sent a legal notice to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), objecting on the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). The notice was sent on 17th December, 2011 and it has asserted that the AICTE has violated a Supreme Court (SC) order by making CMAT mandatory for business schools.
CMAT is a single entrance test to be conducted by AICTE for admission to business schools across the country. The first CMAT is scheduled to be held over ten days in February next year and the registration for CMAT began on December 9.
The EPSI in its notice has asked the AICTE to reply by December 27, and has mentioned that they will move to SC on the issue if they do not get a satisfactory response. According to an interim order passed on 17th March, 2011, business schools could choose one of four all India entrance tests other than CMAT: the Common Admission Test (CAT), the Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Xavier's Aptitude Test (XAT) and the AIMS Test for Management Admission (ATMA).
Furthermore, AICTE had allowed the use of Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores without SC permission.
