FMS teaches students the tricks of the trade
Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) is back with their ‘Merchants of Delhi’ event – helping their MBA students grasp the concept of market and business.
Just like various reality TV shows such as The Apprentice, students were divided into 15 groups and each group was handed Rs 500 at the outset. The objective was to go out to the streets of Delhi and multiply the amount by utilising the seed amount given to each team.
Teams had a few hours to think, strategise and implement their ideas. The Catch – students could not carry mobile phones, wallets and were asked not to reveal the name of the institution, and of course, they don’t beg, borrow or steal!
“How do you earn Rs 1.22 lakh with just Rs 7,500 in your pocket? 6 hours on the streets of Delhi, and students of FMS aced at it, winning the hearts of people on the busy streets of Delhi,” informed the institute in a release.
“It was an exhilarating, fulfilling yet a body numbing experience. Given that this was our first sales stint, this day will go down in our memories as a truly special and memorable one,” said Shivam Agarwal, Sneha Motwani & Pooja Pai, part of the winning team of the event.
Three teams earned more than Rs 11,000, with the winners managing Rs 13,750 by the end of the day. Business ideas ranged from drawing random sketches, customised greeting cards, guys dancing on item numbers, offering career counselling to selling roses, singing and poetry.
