In a recent conversation with Shiksha, Jasmine Alka Noronha talks about her experience of GD & PI process for admission at Manipal Institute of Management. She has talked about the questions asked by the panelists and also has a few tips for aspiring students.

Q. What were the GD topics at the time of your admission?

A.

Social Media - Boon or bane?

My answer was somewhat like this - Social Media in the present society is one such tool which might prove itself as a boon or bane when put in use by the person. If the person uses the medium to circulate original and accurate information then it is a boon to the people around else its a bane. For instance, considering social media is a knife which can be used to cut fruits but can also be used by a murderer in order to kill someone. Hence it is left to the person or society to make the right use of social media.

Q. What were the focus areas during your GD preparation?

A.

Current affairs, topics related to social change(women empowerment, the need of old age homes, etc.)

Q. What methods did you use to prepare for your GD?

A.

I sought help from the internet.

Q. How many panelists and participants were there?

A.

Panelists - 2

Participants - 6

Q. Who were the panelists in your GD & PI? How difficult were they to tackle? What was your overall strategy to tackle the panel and what worked?

A.

Professors from the Marketing department were GD panelists and Research Professor was our PI panelist. It was not difficult to tackle them as they were looking for precise answers. Being mentally alert and trying to understand where everyone was focusing on was what worked for me.

Q. What were the questions asked in your PI?

A.

Personality related questions were asked.

Q. How did you prepare for your PI?

A.

I used to surf PI related information on the internet.

Q. Did you happen to panic at any given pint of time during the GD & PI? Any particular moment in which you wanted to go back and change or may perform better?

A.

There was no such specific instance but I could have introduced myself in a better manner during PI.

Q. How was your overall GD & PI experience?

A.

GD and PI were not very challenging. Rather, it was simple. Both focus on our ability to communicate and asses how spontaneous we are.

Q. What tips do you have for the aspirants appearing for GD & PI?

A.

You should be very confident while answering and your answers should have good points which are up to the mark.

Q. What is the one lesser-known fact about GD & PI?

A.

GD & PI is all about being confident.
