Gujarat says no for CMAT this year
By Richha Bhatnagar
The state education department of Gujarat has clarified that Gujarat has backed-off from Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) this year. CMAT is a common entrance test to be conducted by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for admission in management colleges across the country.
Senior officials from the department said that the state may adopt the CMAT from 2012. Principal education secretary Hasmukh Adhia stated that students are not well prepared for CMAT this year. The education department's statement has made things clear that students have to prepare for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) which is conducted by Gujarat Technological University for MBA and MCA admissions.
There are about 15,000-odd MBA seats in the state. Last year, 24,000 students had appeared for the test to apply for these seats. Recently, S S Mantha, chairman of AICTE said that all states would be required to adopt the CMAT and no exemption would be given to any state. Such statements from both the parties have created confusion amongst Gujarat students.
