ISB and IIM-A are the only two Indian institutes to have made it to the global rankings by Financial Times.

The prestigious Business School Ranking were released by the Financial Times recently. Indian School of Business (ISB) and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) are the only Indian B-schools featured on this list. To participate in the rankings, international accreditation is must and the management programme must have run for at least four consecutive years. In 2012, 150 B-schools has participated in this process.

This year, ISB has lost its place in the financial times rankings; there is a drop from 13th position to the 20th. IIM-A debuted on the list last year with its one-year post graduate programme for executives (PGPX). This year it has secured 11th place in the ranking.

In terms of career progression, IIM-A has been ranked as the top business school whereas ISB secured 29th position for the same. The weighted salary of IIM Ahmedabad stands at $175,076 whereas the weighted salary for ISB is $129,512.

Saral Mukherjee, chairperson of PGPX, IIM-A said that the rankings are based on many parameters and the institute was ranked as No. 1 in one of its parameter i.e. career progression. May be, it is the sole reason as why the institute has secured No. 11 in the whole ranking. (Read more...)

The weighted salary for IIM-A has increased marginally by $636 in 2012, closing to Harvard Business School whose weighted salary is $178,249. ISBs weighted salary is $129,512, and it has again experienced a downfall by 3.64 per cent. When it comes to value for money parameter, IIM-A has secured 29th place and ISB stood at 52. The overall salary percentage has increased at IIM Ahmedabad by 140 per cent but as compared to last year increase, it is down by 12%. ISB has experienced the salary percentage increase of 177 per cent.

The IIM-A's research rank was 92 this year, 11 positions below ISB's 70th rank. While giving it a close look, it has been concluded that ISB's lack of participation in the doctoral rank category could be the biggest reason as why it has secured lower ranks in the overall ranking process. IIM Ahmedabad has scored 52nd rank for the same.

US-based Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard Business School and University of Pennsylvania's Wharton have secured first, second and third rank respectively. China's Hong Kong UST Business School is ranked tenth and National University of Singapore's School of Business is ranked 23rd.
