IIM-ABC among top-10 Asia pacific B-Schools
IIM Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Calcutta continue to reign over the B-school scenario in India. This trio has made it to the top 10 in the Asia Pacific region of the QS Global 200 Business Schools Report 2012 in the global ranking.
While IIM-A holds the second position, IIM-Bangalore is in fifth and IIM-C is in eighth position. IIM-A and IIM-C has shown drastic improvements according to the employer opinion this year in the region by improving four places. Among other Indian B-schools, Indian School of Business has been ranked seventh, S P Jain Institute of Management and Research at 16th and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade at 21st positions. Singapore has once again grabbed the number one slot in the region for the third consecutive year. Melbourne Business School (University of Melbourne, Australia), NUS Business School, (National University of Singapore) and University of New South Wales were some of the other institutes that featured in the top 10 in the region.
The origin of the QS global report dates back to the early 1990s and it provides a detailed overview of the most popular business schools around the world based on information given by global recruiters. It lists 200 business schools from which employers prefer to recruit MBA students. The ratings are based on MBA specialization ratings and region - Africa and the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America.
It has been reported that though US and Europe are the most sought after destinations for MBA, schools in other parts like Asia-Pacific are slowly gaining recognition in the global eye. Reports also suggest that the schools in the Asia Pacific region are working towards and meet standards with the standards of American and European Institutions. Particularly in countries like India and China, the demand for accredited schools is higher for training the next generation of successful business leaders.
According to the repot, international student enrolment is a matter of concern for employers looking for graduates to work in a multinational environment. The percentage of international students in renowned institutes such as IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C and ISB is 1, 10, 3 and 5 respectively.
