With recent news of Indian Institute of Management - Calcutta (IIM-C) planning a makeover, Shiksha spoke to top authorities at the B-School to find out the truth.
According to sources, the institute will hold a faculty meeting – ‘Retreat’ – on December 8, 2013, to discuss various proposals and try to re-invent itself.
“At the Retreat, we try to foresee the targets for the next few years and build a roadmap for the same,” said Aloke Guin, Public Relations Officer, IIM-C.
The information came around when British Prime Minister David Cameron visited the B-School last week. According to Guin, about 100 faculty members will discuss various issues including curriculum changes, infrastructure, technology and global branding of IIM-C. The institute plans to distribute tablets with study material and teaching via satellite for the executive programmes, informed sources.
Shiksha asked some PGP students to give their opinion on what needs to change. “The institute needs to have more industry interface and leadership talks,” said one student. “Certain courses could be conducted by industry experts. That will be a really good initiative,” he added.
Revamping the infrastructure was another suggestion. “Though our classrooms are well equipped, it is still lacking from a global standpoint. Efforts should also be made to make the campus more disabled-friendly,” he said.
IIM-C was ranked 19 in the Financial Times (FT) Masters in Management 2013 Global Rankings. It also ranked the number 1 institute in finance and 2nd in economics. The institute is planning to participate in more global rankings and surveys in an effort to enhance its brand value.
