IIM seat will come at a price
For Indian Institute of Management (IIM) aspirants, only half the battle is over after attempting the online entrance exam (CAT). With
the results scheduled to be announced by the third week of February, candidates are now preparing for the second round of the selection process, viz group discussion (GD), essay writing and personal interviews (PI). But what must worry them more is that since other institutes have already started the admission process, they are going to lose large amounts in fee refunds should they get selected by the IIMs.
โThe admission process for the IIMs will start by the second week of March, but by then, several students would have reserved seats in the second-rung management colleges which have already started admission. Once they get calls from the IIMs, cancelling seats in these colleges will cost them a packet,โ said Parag Chitale, director, Chitaleโs Personalised Learning Centre (CPLC).
Further, with the IIMs not clarifying the weightage given to CAT scores, students are hoping their academic record will play a significant role. โCAT scores always form an important component of the selection process. However, IIM-Shillong also looks at performance across all levels. A candidate with a lower CAT score can do better in the GD/PI than someone with higher scores, and get selected,โ said Harsha Jhunjhunwala, spokesperson, IIM-Shillong.
