Mystory@B Sai Charan: How I chose my course and college
After completing my schooling I was confused as to which stream to choose in my Intermediate. I realized that BiPC is not my cup of tea and was stuck between MPC and MEC groups. After suggestions from various people, I opted for MPC. During the entire course of MPC, I realized that though I was comfortable with science topics, I did not enjoy the subject at deeper level. I managed to finish Intermediate with a quite decent score. And then the real problem started. Deep in my mind there was a desire to do MBA and there were many paths available to reach there. That is the time when a 17 to 18-year-old can’t take a decision on his own or can afford to avoid listening to elders. After a lot of introspection I decided that Engineering would never suit me. Thus, the hunt for the best commerce courses began. The options in front of me were BCom and BBM.
After a lot of advice from my cousins and well-wishers who were already in the field of management and some who were working, I took a call to join BBM. The main suggestion from them was to join a course which will give me practical exposure. I joined Westin college of Business Management. And in the second year of graduation I did my internship in Novotel Vishakhapatnam in the department of HR. In 2015 I successfully completed my graduation.
How I cracked college admission
As MBA was already a dream to accomplish I decided to take a break of 1 year to prepare for the entrance tests. I decided to take CMAT to enter into business schools. I did not have access to any worthy coaching centers in my location. Thanks to technology, I got access to the some of the best tutorials on YouTube. I followed Takshazila Shikshak videos to prepare for entrance exams. To get some practice over real time exam conditions I took mocks in Career Anna mocks portal. For practice of sums I bought TIME materials were quite helpful. In January I got my results and started searching for colleges. My choices were limited as I had no chance of going far off places. I limited myself to Hyderabad and Chennai. My choices were IMT Hyderabad, IPE (Institute of Public Enterprise), Hyderabad and VIT VELLORE. The interview process of all the colleges were in the month of March. Each college had different criteria for selection. IMT, Hyderbad had written ability test in their first round and an interview in the second round. IPE Hyderabad had Group discussion in the first round and an interview in the second round. I got selected at IMT Nagpur and IPE Hyderabad. After analyzing various parameters I joined IPE. And that’s how the journey began.
What I gained from my college experience
On July 4, 2016 my journey at IPE began. The induction day was quite promising which instilled faith in once again that my career at IPE will be much brighter. We have trimester system in our college which makes time even more precious. Our classes start at 9.30 am and end at 4.30 pm. We have four sessions per day of 75 minutes duration each. I wake up at 6.30 in the morning do little bit of exercise and prepare for the scheduled classes of the day. At 3.55 pm we have a 50 min session dedicated for student activities. This session is organized by students in which GDs on latest events and individual presentations happen. These sessions helps us a lot in our internships interviews.
We had six subjects in our first trimester out of which my personal favorites were Financial Accounting and Organizational Behavior. As I did my bachelors in management, I was able to enjoy the subject more than my friends who are from technical background. We even have an international language in our curriculum. It is one of the most beautiful language in the world. Guess? It is French, a very interesting language. After approximately 40 days of commencement of classes we had our first mid-term.
There are many activities such as daily presentations, assignments, group tasks, class room participation on which we are assessed for internal evaluation which is a part of total evaluation.
Coming to extra-curricular activities we have various clubs - marketing club, finance club, sports club, literary club etc. for carrying out various activities. We have two grounds for football and cricket, one table tennis court, one badminton court and a lot of indoor games to help student relax from academic stress. We have a library with huge collection of books and magazines.
IPE provides everything required for holistic development of student but I personally feel that the existing industry interaction sessions should be more frequent. Other than this IPE provides everything which a student both expects and requires. The hostel facilities provided here is probably one of the best in the business.
As IPE is a well-known B-school, it attracted students from all over the country which helped me gain insight into different cultures of our country which made me more open minded. The faculty is very friendly and helps us grow our knowledge multifold. We have a mentor for every 20 students which makes the experience even more enriching.
