Over 1,000 candidates who were to take NMAT on January 30 and 31, the entrance test of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), rescheduled their dates for the two days since it was clashing with CAT.

NMAT, which went online for the first time this year, kickstarted on January 30 and is being conducted in staggered batches in India, Australia, UK and 12 Asian countries within a window period of 10 days till February 8.

Owing to technical problems, IIMs had announced a second phase of CAT. Since the dates January 30 and 31 clashed with NMAT, both NMIMS and Pearson VUE (the agency which is conducting NMAT), had written to the IIMs to reconsider and reschedule CAT re-test dates to “avoid this conflict so that test takers who are registered for both tests are not inconvenienced”.

“The NMAT-2010 test dates were announced in October 2009 and the IIMs should have taken these dates into consideration before deciding the CAT re-test dates,” the Pearson VUE-NMAT website had said after the CAT dates for the second phase were announced.

Simultaneously, students were told to take advantage of the NMAT rescheduling window which was kept open from January 11-17.

“Should the IIMs choose not to provide alternative dates to avoid conflict with NMAT, and you are caught within this conflict, you may want to take advantage of the rescheduling window,” the website had said. “About 40,000 candidates will take the test spread over ten days. It was conducted smoothly across all centres on Saturday,” said professor Anupam Rastogi, admissions chairperson, NMIMS.

“The process was good and there were no technical errors. Unlike CAT where I had to wait for two hours as the process was very slow, the NMAT process was very smooth,” said Mordhwaj Kedia, candidate.
