There may be good news for youngsters who want to pursue a career in management as AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) has announced a change in admission norms for students seeking admission in masters degree in management, and also certificate courses in the management.

According to an earlier policy, 50 per cent of the seats were meant to be filled by the state level test conducted by the B-Schools, but eventually many institues opposed this norm.

The institutes were demanding that they should be allowed to chose their own entrance test, which was not heeded by the AICTE.

However, in its latest move the AICTE has finally permitted the institues to chose either CAT Common Admission Test (CAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT) or state admission tests for admissions to their courses.

Nevertheless, a pre-requsite is that the institutes will have to inform AICTE about which tests they are offering candidates sitting for the exams.

Earlier, business schools had protested against this AICTE decision as they said that allowing state government to control admissions was akin to taking away their autonomy. They also said that this could pave the way for corruption and redtapism in admissions.
