Choosing a college or professional course after completion of schooling or  graduation is a tedious task. Every student dreams of being placed in the best organization with high packages. Colleges realize this and many of them even promote themselves with the offer of 100% placement.

Nevertheless, every year campus placement times are tough for students. After going through all the years of learning and examination when the college placements start, it is almost as if the entire success of our education rests on this period. Many students have claimed to see their entire college time flash past them, as they wait outside the placement rounds. Though many  students do get those lucrative packages and positions in MNCs that they dreamt of, some students choose off-campus interviews and placements as a better alternative.

The fact is that the placement season is not easy unless you have been sufficiently prepared for it. Many get anxious, confused and addled with all these companies and opportunities knocking at their door. The confusion starts with      questions including whether college placements are worth my time, should I choose a good package or a better profile, should I go with a company having a bond, which company is better, if I apply now, what if I miss the good opportunity that is expected to come later, etc. Such constant questioning ends up creating the anxiety within.

In my placement journey at JIMS, I was one of these students with similar questions. I faced the same challenges in the battle to successfully achieve the dream job I always wished for. The PGDM department, faculty members and placement department played a crucial role. The faculty helped me to practice presenting myself in front of a large crowd, and gave me the confidence to speak in group discussion activities in classes and beyond. This was in addition to the fact that the PGDM department arranges various corporate guest sessions that helped me to get insights into how the corporate world works. Further, MOOC courses and internships are also compulsory which again become valuable for practical exposure and enhancing the CV.

Moreover, the placement cell played a critical role in preparing us. It provided us with important details such as company profile, job description, and domain insights well in time so that we were better equipped to face the job interviews. In addition various sessions were arranged to prepare and guide us before the interview dates  about what is important - such as reading the job description properly, finding out what skill set and domain knowledge  the company is looking for, reading newspaper daily, keeping business facts in mind, displaying high confidence and right body language, being fully aware of what is written in our CVs, conducting self-questioning sessions, etc. They also conducted regular mock interviews, group discussions and aptitude tests.

This preparation and rigor motivated me further to go the extra mile and I followed the 6 ‘R’ rule (Read, Realize, Rehearse, Radiant to be happy and healthy, Relaxed, and Resilient). Finally, I got placed in my dream company Gartner with the great support of JIMS.

So apart from the academic learnings, I realized that it is important to keep going and above all, trust your capabilities. You will definitely get there eventually, and you will realize that all those efforts were worth it.
