The state government’s idea of conducting a single Common Entrance Test (CET) for professional courses from 2010 onwards is not working out with private college managements opposing the idea. The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Monday organised a meeting with the private managements to discuss this, but most of the representatives expressed their disagreement for conducting single CET.

Shamanur Shivashankarappa, president, Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Karnataka said, “We are not ready to have a single entrance test. So far, there are no complaints or allegations about the tests conducted by the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K), and it is better the government drops the single CET idea.”

The delegates felt that as most professional colleges had expressed keenness on having a uniform fee structure, it would be better to continue with the current system. The seat sharing and fee structure for professional courses in private colleges and KEA through CET may remain the same as last year.
