Retail Sector Will Become The Second Biggest Employer of India After Agriculture Soon!
Retailing in India is largely seen as akin to marketing and direct selling. But it is lot more than that!
Retail Management is growing as an industry. In the past three years, it has shown 40% growth against only 10% growth in other sectors. It is slated to become the second biggest employer after agriculture by next decade. In just next two years, trade experts predict that there will be as many as 100 million entry-level jobs in the retail segment!
Seeing the mass recruitment opportunity, the Retailers Association of India (RAI) and the Pearl Academy of Fashion have joined hands to launch the Retail Talent Development Series (RTDS). In this, RAI and Pearl will conduct career opportunity seminars on retail industry in interested colleges.
Retail industry is still very young in India but it has shown a great momentum in the new millennium. This momentum of growth is expected to continue over the next decade or two. Apart from sales, the RTDS seminar will apprise students about various career options available for them in the retail industry such as fashion designing, product development, visual merchandising, accounting, branding, and marketing.
Retail domains require skilled personnel at various levels - from front-end to backend operations. On-the-job training is readily available for interested candidates but opportunities are brighter for graduates who have undergone at least one year of specialized course in retailing, merchandising, or design from a reputed institute.
According to RAI, retail industry is attractive for youth because it offers a surprisingly quick move to the top seats. An individual entering the retail industry at 22 years of age can reach the position of a Vice President or even a CEO in just 10 or 15 years of time, if he has the right skills, determination, and aptitude.
