Foreigners With US Degree Can Get A Green Card
Good news for Indian students who plan to fly to the US for a higher education degree. To entice the world's "best and the brightest", a group of top Democratic Senators proposed immediate Green Cards for foreigners with advanced degrees from American institutes. Simultaneously, they have proposed tightening of rules for H-1B and L1 visas, which are also popular among Indian technology professionals. The proposals are aimed at fixing the country's broken immigration system.

IITs Devise Corrective Measures For JEE Errors
To overcome the errors occurring in JEE question papers, the IITs have devised multi-pronged remedial measures which also include scaling up the marks for certain unprinted and unreadable questions. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) will discuss the problem in the meeting and find out corrective measures so that genuine students are not affected by the mistakes that occurred in the exam.

UP Technical University Bifurcated
The government of Utter Pradesh has bifurcated UP Technical University into two and formed Maha Maya Technical University for engineering and management colleges in western UP and Gautam Buddha Technical University for the rest of the state. Mr. Kripa Shanker, Vice-Chancellor, UPTU said, "UPTU Noida Extension Centre at Sector 62 will be the office of the new Maha Maya Technical University." According to UPTU, Vice-Chancellor, "UPTU has over 500 colleges. More than 300 were in western U.P. The state government felt handling a large number of colleges by a single university was not advisable as it was adding additional burden to staff. Therefore, the decision to bifurcate UPTU was taken in February."

Education Reforms Bill Introduced In Parliament
A bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha containing four important education reforms with a focus on improving quality of higher education system in the country. The bill will allow foreign varsities to enter India and open campuses in the country which will help in imparting quality education to young minds of India which was opposed by Speaker Mr. Meira Kumar at its initial stages. CPI (M) minister, Mr. Basudeb Acharya also opposed the introduction of foreign varsities Bill 2010, on the ground that it would westernize the education system. HRD minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal also introduced the foreign educational institutions bill to ban the illegal practices in technical and medical educational institutions and universities. According to the bill, if the institution fails to keep the promises of quality education, it will lead them to imprisonment up to three years for guilty administrators or fine up to Rs 50 lakh for the institute.

DU Gives Green Signal To Semester System, Partially
Delhi University (DU) has agreed to implement the proposal of a semester system from the commencing academic session. The semester system will be initially introduced in the science and commerce streams. DU is already following the semester system in its postgraduate programs and has decided to undertake the system for its undergraduate courses. There are many colleges, which had rejected the semester system in 2010 including Deshbandhu, Kirori Mal, SGND Khalsa, DCAC, Janaki Devi Memorial, Kamla Nehru College stating that the university was not in a position to execute the semester system.
