Taking heed to a petition filed by a lawyer Mr. Viplav Sharma in Supreme Court who challenged the decision to withdraw deemed status of 44 universities, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry said that two independent panels set up by it had found "aberrations" in their functioning. According to a norm, all educational institutions are required to get themselves re-accredited after every five years. Mumbai University is yet to get its second re-accreditation.University officials are trying to put all the blame on the Board of College and University Development (BCUD). They feel that it is responsible for quality assurance. A senior faculty member said, "The BCUD is completely ignoring its responsibility. Officials of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), which conducted the CAT 2009, said the CAT score would be available on the website and all the aspiring candidates can check the result. They also mentioned that the shortlisted candidates list will be announced on the website as all the IIMs are ready with the list. In the union budget 2010-11, the central government has given more than Rs.1,400 crore to higher education in the coming fiscal compared to the current financial year. To aid financially weak students, Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee has pegged an amount of Rs.500 crore for subsidizing students' loans. Several candidates, who were unsatisfied with the marking pattern, demanded the formula used by IIM for normalization.
