FMS Student Gets A Record Breaking International Salary Of Rs. 26 Lakh
This year, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) has received record breaking international salary hike of Rs. 26 lakh. The domestic salary has touched Rs 20 lakh, which was offered by a supply chain consulting firm. "This year saw a shift in the general pecking order with students giving more importance to the job content and profile offered as opposed to the customary factors of compensation and brand name," said a statement from the institute.

Cabinet Welcomes Foreign Universities To India
Educational Institution (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010, has been given a green signal by the Union Cabinet which will help foreign universities to set up campuses and offer degrees in India and to set up joint venture and collaboration with Indian colleges and institutes. The proposal is going to benefit Indian students who currently choose to go abroad for higher studies.

School of Planning and Architecture Unsuccessful In Clearing The UGC Test
According to a review report presented by University Grants Commission, The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) is lacking in architecture education in India. As per the report, "Professors don't have PhDs or their equivalent certified by a competent authority. With dilution of qualifications.... research guidance of PhD and research activities will suffer". The famous architect Mr Ram Sharma said, "SPA is not the same anymore. There is a shortage of faculty and I doubt if students are inspired by their teachers."

PhD Students Should Undertake Teaching Assignments
The Planning Commission has brought reforms in teaching jobs in the higher education to meet the demand of teachers. It is mandatory for all Ph.D students to undertake under-graduate and optional post-graduate teaching assignments. According to the review as discussed with Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh, "Ph.D students should undertake undergraduate teaching assignments and conduct tutorials and seminar classes as is the global practice." The panel plans to hire scientists as visiting faculties who have done their Ph.D and are working in the research labs of the public / private sectors. This will also include hiring of retired faculties on contractual basis by providing better allowances.

XLRI Gets A Highest Global Offer Of Rs 60 Lakh
This placement season, XLRI Jamshedpur has recorded a 10 per cent rise in the highest international offer to its students. The offer, about Rs 60 lakh a year, is from Novartis. The student, who received this offer, is going be based in Switzerland in the human resource department of the company.

Columbia University Opens International Academic Hub In Mumbai
Columbia University has announced the opening of Columbia Global Center for South Asia in Mumbai. The economist and Director of South Asian Programs for Columbia's Earth Institute, Mr. Nirupam Bajpai, will be leading efforts to open the Center. Columbia's global scholarship is already established in Beijing (China), Paris (France) and Amman (Jordan) and now Mumbai is going to be its fourth hub. According to Mr. Bajpai, "Being physically present makes outreach and involvement with local institutions easier while still maintaining a close relationship with Columbia."
