Students Who Missed CAT Get Another Lifeline
IIM recently announced that the pen and pencil format is history but hassured that the aggrieved students who could not appear for the test due to the technical problems during the scheduled test window will get another chance in mid-January. "We are conducting a retest in mid-January for all those students who could not take the CAT. This test will also be computer based," said Mr. Sameer Barua, director of IIM-Ahmedabad. "We believe that we will go ahead with the online test in future also... this is the only way forward," said Ms. Pankaj Chandra, Director IIM-Bangalore after a meeting with the higher education secretary Mr. Vibha Puri Das. Nearly 242,000 candidates registered for the CAT-2009, but only 216,000 took the test. The IIMs claimed that while 24,000 aspirants did not appear for the test, the rest 2,000 will need to take the test again.

NCHMCT To Conduct JEE 2010 on 8th May
The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) has announced that it will conduct its Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2010 on 8th May. An official press release from the institute said, "NCHMCT shall conduct an All India Entrance Examination on 8th May, 2010 for admission to the first year of the 3-year B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration for the 2010-2011 academic session for its affiliated institutes across the country".

DU Goes Tech-Savvy With Wi-Fi, 1 GB Bandwidth
Considering the rapid developments taking place in Delhi University (DU), students are assured of getting a faster and better web connection. DU is introducing Wi-Fi in all its constituent colleges along with the up-gradation of its internet connection bandwidth from the current 100 mbps to 1 gbps in the next six months. University Vice-Chancellor Mr. Deepak Pental confirmed that, "All the upgradation is expected to get over by the next academic session that is by July 2010. The funding has come from the National Knowledge Commission." He added the superior bandwidth will give a boost to file-sharing and video streaming for the students.

IIM Calcutta's Program For Chartered Accountants
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has announced a satellite-based management program for Chartered Accountants (CAs) and other accounting professionals, said an official recently. Mr. Darshan Vyas from the institute's admissions office said, "The program aims at developing competence and skills essential to climb up the corporate ladder among CAs, Cost Accountants and Company Secretaries." The classes will commence from April, 2010.

25 DU Sponsored Teachers To Study Overseas
In a proposal to improve the quality of education imparted at the varsity, Delhi University (DU) will now send its teachers to abroad for a year. The University will sponsor 25 teachers for the first time, by sending them to acquire a Master's degree from Britain and Canada. Mr. B.P. Sahu,International Relations Dean of DU's on being asked as to why these universities were chosen replied, "There are excellent universities in other parts of the world, but it is in these universities that the English language is in currency. The language in which discussions are to take place should be common otherwise the whole purpose of the idea is marred."

Following the Board of Inspection's (BoI) nod, out of seventy-eight, Sixty-seven B.Ed. colleges are now recognized colleges in the state of Rajasthan. These colleges are affiliated for the current session based on the old rules of the inspection report after a careful scrutiny of the Board. The Board, however, permitted students to sit for the exams this year by imposing fines on unaffiliated colleges on the basis of inadequate staff, lecturers etc. According to the BoI members, the verification of documents of B.Ed colleges is pending at the administrative level. Their affiliation might not be approved if the mandatory issues are not settled.
