SNAP 2013 results: How to calculate percentile from score?
“Now that the results of SNAP 2013 are out, how do you calculate the scores? Or is it percentiles…”
This was one of the common doubts of the candidates Shiksha spoke to on Friday. To ease all issues, we spoke to Tarun Malik, Product Head – MBA, Career Launcher. This is what he had to say.
“There are two scores. First, the SNAP score out of 180 is scaled down to 40. For example, if my score is 90 out of 180, my scaled score will be 20{(90/180) * 40 = 20}. This is called SNAP score. And SNAP has given this in terms of percentile.
The second score is Academic profile (AP). It is calculated in this way:
AP = (A*1) + (B*1.5) + (C*2.5)
Where A = Score assigned to 10th Marks.
B = Score assigned to Std. 12th Marks.
C = Score assigned to Graduation Marks.
Tables below show how scores for A, B & C are assigned
| (A) |
|
| Percentage Score in X Standard Examination |
Score |
| 60-69.99 |
1 |
| 70-79.99 |
2 |
| > = 80 |
3 |
| (B) |
|
| Percentage Score in XII Standard Examination |
Score |
| 60-69.99 |
1 |
| 70-79.99 |
2 |
| > = 80 |
3 |
| (C) |
|
| Percentage Score inGraduation Examination |
Score |
| 60-64.99 |
1 |
| 65-74.99 |
2 |
| > = 75 |
3 |
Suppose my marks in 10th, 12th and Graduation are 65%, 72% and 80% respectively, my score will be 1*1 + 2*1.5 + 3*2.5 = 11.5/15.
This score is scaled down to 10. i.e. if my score is 11.5/15, My scaled score will be 11.5/15 * 10 = 23/3 = 7.67.
This score is also given in percentile form.
Now my final score will be 20 + 7.67 = 27.67 converted in to percentile.
Percentile: Percentile shows that how many people have got less marks than me. So all the students are ranked according to the scores and if my rank is 2500 out of 10000, my percentile will be 2500/10000 * 100 = 25
SNAP does not give cutoff list.
