Students’ Speak: 3 things you must do after MAT 2020
By: Akshita Chaudhary
Below is a chronological guide that will help you decide where and how to invest your time post MAT exam.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a highly competitive exam that takes months of preparation. Once you have taken the exam, you will feel a layer of stress peeling off you. You now would be looking forward to the next steps to take after the exam. MAT is just a part of the selection process in your dream MBA college. After clearing the exam, you’ll go through several layers of selection tests such as Group Discussion, Personal Interview, and Writing Ability Test based on the college to which you apply. Thinking of the hectic schedule ahead, you might get tense and wonder what you should do before MAT results are out. Don’t worry. Here is a chronological guide that will help you decide where and how to invest your time post MAT test:
Immediately after the test
Lay back and relax. After months of mental labour you put in, it’s time to give yourself a break. Go home, and take some rest. It will ease the unnecessary stress of thinking about the results and your performance in the test. You can take a long nap and indulge in your favourite activities for the whole day. It will help recharge your mind and prepare you mentally for the next steps.
Day after the test
Now that you’re well-rested and your mind is a little bit at ease, you should assess your performance in the test. It is a crucial step as this assessment will decide your future strategy. Count the number of questions you attempted correctly and the ones where you guessed the answers. The best way to calculate the aggregate score is by considering all the guessed answers as wrong. If your score is anywhere near 100-130, you need not worry and focus on the next steps of the selection process. If you have not performed well, it is best not to give it second thoughts until the results are out. Be optimistic and start preparing for the further process
Over the next few days
It is time that you start searching for good MBA colleges according to your score. Go through their selection criteria and make yourself familiar with the schedule of all the processes. Once you’re done, you should start with finding your weak areas. For example, you might be good at interacting with interviewers but find yourself fidgeting in your seat during a group discussion. That means you need to spend more time practising on it. Start reading newspapers and brushing up your current affairs as they are critical during an MBA interview. Last but not least, don’t delve too much into the preparations and remember to give yourself some recreational time.
