Abdullah Salman shares a detailed account of his personal GDPI experience from the time of his admissions.

I am sharing my Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) experience of one of the top 25 B-Schools of India, i.e. Welingkar Management or We School. I had not done any specific or special preparation for my GDPI. Having graduated  from an Engineering background and already having work experience, GDPI was not a big deal for me. I went through  Welingkar and their legacy, rank, programmes offered and faculty. Most importantly, I went through recent happenings in the global and Indian market with regards to government policies and corporate media. This was my preparation for Group Discussion.

I needed to brush up my contents which I had filled up during the application for WE School; my UG projects and my work. The major things which I was concentrating on were the current affairs and recent issues in and across the globe. After reaching campus, there was a pre-talk session where they explained about their college heritage, legacy, founders, courses offered and placements. They also provided snacks and juice to the candidates so that they could feel comfortable. They explained about the rounds for admissions also.

GD Process

In the GD, I was part of a group of 10-12 candidates where we were given a non-abstract topic. There were two people in the GD panel and they were pretty clear with what they were expecting from us. The GD lasted for about 10 minutes. They were mostly evaluating us on our communication, confidence and team building efforts in the GD process.

PI Process

There were two people in the panel. It went for about 25 minutes. They asked me an open question - Tell me about yourself,  I told everything in chronological order from my work to my college to my SSLC. My tip here is don't be too personal by describing in detail about family and their whereabouts. Just be clear about your data only. They asked about my UG project as one of the panellists was from the technical domain. At the end, they asked me many situational and behavioural questions about my work and future as to check whether I would sustain management program knowing that I was from technical background i.e Engineering.
