Students’ Speak: Why are start-ups the right pick for summer internship?
My overall experience was very good and I will recommend everyone to join a start-up as you learn many more things that too in detail, which you won't learn in any established company.
In every MBA college, the summer internship programme is mandatory as it gives the students an exposure to the corporate world. I would like to share my experience with my summer internship programme at my college, there were many companies which came to provide us with training. These included Jaro, Aditya Birla, Bosch, Au Small Finance Bank, MMT, Gooodstay, Bisleri, Godrej, among others. These included both paid and unpaid offers. I was recruited for a paid internship, wherein I was getting Rs 7,000 with additional incentives in a month.
I preferred to choose a start-up because I think we tend to learn more in a challenging setup as they take a lot of work from you and that too in every department where you can explorer more to decide your career before choosing your specialisation. Gooodstay is a start-up based in Gurugram providing accommodation to corporate professionals. They work upon two models B2B & B2C. In B2B the target customers were the corporate employees where the company inked contracts with the client company and gave them accommodation at an economical rate. In B2C model, the public at large was the audience. In this, the company provided PGs, flats and studio apartments. I worked there as a business development trainee and also as an accountant.
As I mentioned above, the start-up helped me in learning a lot of things in such a small period. I was able to cold call companies and connect with their HR and administration heads to tell them the Gooodstay's policies & offer. I also met with the HR head and the manager to discuss the policies and send them a proposal if they agreed. During my internship, I converted one lead with The Leela Hotel. I handled a team of seven interns during my internship and assigned them their work. I was assigned to make the Projected Financial Statements of the company and gave some advice to the MD of the company on cost-cutting. I also took interviews with some freshers who wanted to join the company as an employee.
My overall experience was very good and I will recommend everyone to join a start-up as you earn many more things that too in detail, which you won't learn in any established company.
One of the prime factors that made me choose Tapmi School of Business was its placement opportunities. Generally, if a student has received one offer letter, they cannot sit in any other company but in Tapmi we can sit in as many companies as we want until we are satisfied with the job offer.
What also motivated me to join the college was the brand name. It is essential to study at an institute that is reputed. And, in my case, Manipal University has a very strong network of alumni. The CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella is also a student of Manipal University, Mangalore.
But apart from the brand name, the college has the best faculties from across the country, and as the strength number of student intake is less, professors give individual focus on every student which happens in no other B-school.
