Beware of fake faculty in medical colleges!
As many as 17 medical colleges across India have come into light for showcasing fake faculty. This is despite the government taking several measures to curb such occurrences. The measures include:
- Issuing show cause notices to these erring colleges
- Removal of names of erring doctors from the Indian Medical Register as per the direction of MCI to the concerned authorities. This includes doctors who have been listed as faculty at medical colleges but do not actually teach there.
Recently, the Medical Council of India (MCI) ordered the removal of 27 doctors from the Indian Medical Register, barring them from medical practice for three to five years. These doctors were punished for indulging in corrupt practices violating MCIβs code of conduct.
To further prevent such instances, the erring institutes will not be considered for renewal of permission or recognition of MBBS and Postgraduate degree for two academic years under the Establishment of Medical College, Regulations, 1999.
Subsequently in some cases, the MCI has been issued charge sheets and received self-contained notes from CBI for further action.
Besides this, to bring in more transparency, faculty would be counted at medical colleges every year and details of teaching faculty received from different colleges would be put up on the MCI website.
