AIIMS, Delhi (www.aiims.edu) has introduced a new course in knee and hip arthroplasty, which would enable orthopedic doctors to comprehend the complexities of joint replacement surgeries extensively & carry out live surgeries of hip and knee joints on cadavers. The course would not create a hole in the pocket of doctors since it's quite affordable for doctors & they can easily pursue it for Rs. 2500.

Dr. C. S. Yadav, course director and orthopedic surgeon at AIIMS says, "Usually surgeons have to undergo this type of training abroad incurring a cost of Rs 2 to 4 lakh. But with the introduction of this course, the same standard of training is available at a nominal fee."

The duration of this programme is two days & would entail theoretical lectures and demonstrations to take place on the first day and practical operations on the second day. "The departments of anatomy and forensic medicine at AIIMS have an excellent facility to preserve bodies so learning becomes a lot easier,"-adds Dr. Yadav

The eligibility criteria of this course for orthopedic doctors are that they must possess a master's degree with at least three years of experience. The next term of this programme is likely to take place yet again in December. This course was initiated last year & since its inception, it has already produced 57 well-trained surgeons in cadaver arthroplasty.

Dr. Yadav is of the opinion that this certificate Cadaver Arthroplasty programme would enable doctors get access to real experience in live vessels, ligaments and skin structure.
