China is the new destination for medical education

With more than 630 higher learning institutions in the field of medical education, China is emerging as one of the major global hub for medical education attracting a large number of international students since the past couple of years. More than 1.76 million students including thousands from India are currently pursuing medical studies in the country.

The number of Indian students joining medical colleges in China is gradually increasing even though the degrees are not directly recognised in India. India Time reported, more than 8,000 Indian students took admission to study Medicine in China in 2010. The number is expected to increase by few hundred this year. Students don't seem to mind writing a separate test back at home set by Medical Council of India to get qualified.

According to Indian official, the cost is lot cheaper to study in China as compared to private medical colleges in India. Moreover the facilities are also much better. Due to the growing interest of the Indians in medical education in China, a large number of Chinese medical schools have recruited Indian and Nepalese medical faculties in their institutions.

The Chinese Health Ministry had also set up a multilevel medical education offering diploma courses ranging from bachelor's to postdoctoral studies. Part-time programmes are also offered for medical workers as well. (Read More...)
