National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) had been proposed by Government as a common medical entrance test for the medical aspirants. This exam aims at a single entrance test instead of writing multiple entrance examinations for admission to MBBS courses.

Earlier, MCI has decided to change the syllabus for the NEET and this delay in amending notification for NEET syllabus has become a cause of concern for students. Previously, Government had announced to conduct a common medical entrance test for admission to MBBS courses in all 335 government and private medical colleges in India from 2012.

NEET for PG courses had already been postponed by the government for next year. It will be held for these courses from next year only. The Health Ministry has already given permission to MCI to revise the earlier notification for taking out the merit list of the proposed entrance test from percentile scores instead of the percentage scores.

Last year, the notification had been confirmed by the Health Ministry for conducting NEET but MCI has now decided to take out the merit list on the basis of percentile score of students taking the exam. MCI has also decided to change the entrance test syllabus and this new syllabus for NEET-UG 2012 will be declared by the second week of November.
