Kerala Private Medical Colleges against postponement of MBBS exams, write to Governor
MBBS students admitted during 2019-20 were appearing for the last phase of the practical examinations scheduled to conclude this weekend.
COVID-19 Impact: Private medical colleges in Kerala along with the UG students have written a letter to the Governor of the State, Arif Mohammed Khan expressing concerns over the postponement of the examination resulting in hampering the future prospects of the MBBS students. They have also requested the Governor not to postpone the UG medical examinations as delaying the examinations would lead to an acute shortage of house surgeons in the State amidst the second wave of the Pandemic.
According to the official schedule, MBBS students admitted during 2019-20 were appearing for the last phase of the practical examinations scheduled to conclude this weekend. However, due to the terrifying increase in the numbers of novel coronavirus cases in the state, the final year MBBS exams that were originally scheduled for February 2021 has been revised and will be conducted in May 2021.
On April 18, 2021, the Governor, after receiving representations from various sections of the public, instructed universities to postpone examinations that were scheduled to begin this week. Following this, all the universities, including Kerala University of Health Sciences postponed the examinations.
Following the postponement, Kerala Private Medical College Management Association secretary V Anil Kumar expressed his concerns over the delay and wrote a letter to the governor stating, "Students belonging to various batches of MBBS course had taken the RT-PCR tests and only those who are negative are admitted to the hostel and are continuing their studies. Majority of students have also taken COVID vaccination."
