Maharashtra finally approves NEET-UG

After much anticipation, Maharashtra has finally and formally agreed to join the National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test (NEET-UG) for undergraduate medical & dental course admissions for the academic year 2013-2014. An offering of the Medical Council of India (MCI), NEET-UG is scheduled to be held on May 5, 2013 (Sunday).

All those aspiring to join medical and dental courses in the state from academic year 2013-14 will have to appear for NEET-UG. This will also be a mandatory requirement for students aiming to pursue other streams like ayurveda, homeopathy, unani, siddha, nursing and allied sciences, to secure admission to the respective colleges in the state.  

As many as 10 lakh students are expected to take this all-India exam for admissions to 355 medical and 29 dental colleges across the country.  CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) will be responsible for the administration and preparation of a merit list for the respective state authorities for NEET -UG.

NEET UG 2013 is an objective type test with no negative marking. The syllabus can be availed on the Medical Council of India website. More than 10 lakh students are expected to take the NEET 2013 next year. The test will be conducted in English, Hindi, Telegu and Bengali among other vernacular languages.
