Cancel NEET for current academic year and conduct medical admissions on the basis of Class 12 marks, says Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss.

PMK founder S Ramadoss said the NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) 2021 impersonation scam that has been unearthed in Maharashtra has created an adverse impression among the students. As per a report published in The Hindu, he said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a case against Nagpur-based coaching company stating that they had taken ₹50 lakh from students promising them that they would get a seat in government medical colleges.

When NEET was implemented in 2010, it was stated that it would improve the standard of medical education and that it would end the commercialisation of medical education in India.

The Centre said it would stop irregularities related to medical college admissions. While that has not happened, there are irregularities in the conduct of NEET itself. This is unacceptable and has destroyed the faith of the students in the conduct of NEET and medical college admissions,” he said.

He said NEET should be cancelled for the current academic year and medical admissions should be based on Class 12 marks.

Those who have been charged in the NEET scam are RK Education Career Guidance, a Maharashtra-based coaching centre, its Director Parimal Kotpalliwar and several students. The parents of the medical candidates were reportedly asked to deposit the original mark sheets of the candidates for Class 10 and Class 12 as security along with the post-dated cheques. The coaching centre said that it will return the documents after the release of the Rs 50 lakh.
