Supreme Court has received an appeal from CBSE to combine the AIPMT and AIEEE into a single entrance test for admissions to various undergraduate medical and engineering. The All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) is being conducted to fill 15% seats in MBBS/BDS courses in government medical and dental colleges against the all-India quota.

On the other hand, All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted for representing the combined merit list for a different category of engineering colleges. Both the exams AIPMT and AIEEE are conducted by CBSE every year. This proposal was handled by the bench of justices R V Raveendran and A K Patnaik, who had dismissed the appeal of CBSE by mentioning that there was no harmony.

Previously, the appeal was appreciated by the bench as it revealed the noble intentions, in which it will relieve the students from appearing in multiple entrance examinations. But health ministry objected on the decision and said that common test for medical and engineering courses would only create confusions and disorder in the merit list.

CBSE specified that the amalgamation of AIPMT and AIEEE will help students and parents to get relieved from the physical and financial stress. In an application of CBSE, it had mentioned that its governing body meeting has evidenced that members of the committee had longing that both the AIPMT and AIEEE should be integrated keeping candidates in mind to enable them to get admission in medical/dental and engineering through a single entrance examination.

Combining medical and engg test is not recommended. Yes combining all central and state medical tests into one and similarly combining all central and state Engg tests into one is appreciable. Student grumble appearing for various state and central tests separately. Dr. Prem Sagar Gupta
