Scholarships for Science Students
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) announced scholarships for the current year recently. Meant for students interested in research, the scholarship amount ranges between R4,000 and R7,000, depending on the category of student. The scholarship is funded by the Department of Science and Technology and is run in collaboration with IIT Bombay and the Indian Council of Medical Research. Anyone studying in Class XI, XII, first or second year of under graduation in basic sciences/ MBBS can apply.
The various categories are as follows:
Basic sciences
Stream SA: Students enrolled in Class XI come under this category. One must have got a minimum of 75 per cent in maths and science subjects in the Class X Board exams.
Stream SB+2: This category covers all students studying in Class XII and aspiring to join an undergraduate programme in basic sciences. To be eligible, one must have scored a minimum of 75 per cent in maths and science subjects in the Class X Board exams.
Stream SB: All undergraduate basic science students come under this category. Applicants must have scored a minimum of 60 per cent marks in aggregate in science subjects in Class XII Board examinations.
Stream SP (Medicine)
MBBS students intending to do a project fall under this category. They will need to join in the first or the second professional year. Students must have passed Class XIII Board examinations with 75 per cent marks aggregate in science subjects or passed first professional year with not less than 60 per cent. A copy of the bio-medical research project is required along with the application.
