Total Medical Colleges and MBBS Seats in India: Get State-wise list of MBBS Colleges and Seats
The total number of MBBS seats in India is 1,18, 190 while total medical colleges in India is 780. The date was shared by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel recently. PG seats have increased to 74,306. As per the data, Karnataka has maximum number of MBBS seats while Uttar Pradesh has maximum medical colleges. Out of the total MBBS seats in India, karnataka leads the chart. Karnataka has 12,545 seats followed by Uttar Pradesh (12,475), Tamil Nadu (12,050), and Maharashtra (11,846). In total medical colleges in India, Uttar Pradesh ranks first. It has got 86 medical colleges while Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka have 80, 77, and 73 colleges respectiveily.
The Health Minister also informed about the steps undertaken to increase the Medical seats in order to increase the overall number of doctors in the country. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in India at present. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET 2025 for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Veterinary and other medical/paramedical courses in India.
