Pharmacovigilence is the study of the adverse effects of a new drug, being tested.

Pharmacovigilence is the study of the adverse effects of a new drug, being tested. The study goes on even once the drug is in the market and ensures that any adverse reaction, even if it is a minor one, is recorded, processed, determined and prevented. India has had an enviable position worldwide in pharmacovigilence with more companies outsourcing here, and for most careerists, this is a fulfilling field.

 

One can pursue degree/diploma courses in Pharmacovigilance at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

 

Eligibility:

 

Eligibility criteria may vary from one institute to another, but for a postgraduate programme, one is usually expected to be:

 

  • MBBS
  • BAMS
  • BDS
  • BHMS
  • Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Graduates
  • B.Pharm/M.Pharm
  • Graduates/ Post Graduates in Sciences/Life sciences/ Bio Sciences with any of the following subjects-Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Biotech.

 

Career prospects

 

One can look forward to careers like Drug Safety Associate (DSA) which is an entry level job for Science graduates. Other interesting jobs include DSS (Drug Safety Scientist), Aggregate report scientist, etc.
