Schools in Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat and Jhajjar not to open till further orders from the Haryana government.
Schools in four districts of Haryana -- Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonepat and Jhajjar – will remain shut due to the deteriorating air quality till further orders from the state government.
S Narayanan, member secretary of Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) said, “We are planning to close schools in the four districts, and have written to the Chief Secretary on this. We are awaiting a final approval, as the Chief Secretary has agreed to it in-principle. The schools will remain closed till further orders.”
The decision to shut schools came after the Supreme Court directed to take action to control air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR). The apex court on Friday took note of the decisions taken by the Commission for Air Quality Management in the NCR and directed the Centre and the Delhi Government to implement the same in order to tackle the air pollution.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Yash Garg had on November 25 released an order allowing all educational institutions to start offline classes from November 26 with strict Covid-19 protocols in place, but only a few schools reopened.
All Delhi schools have also been closed from December 3 until further orders. Air quality in Delhi faced a major depreciation after Diwali. On November 13, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the closure of schools for a week to protect students from breathing the polluted air. The closure was extended beyond one week as the air quality in the city did not improve.
