Allahabad HC dismisses plea to transfer Kanpur University's VC case to CBI

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has dismissed a plea against the transfer to probe to CBI against Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur Vice-Chancellor Vinay Pathak in a corruption case. A bench of Justice D K Upadhyay and Justice N K Jauhri passed the order on the petition filed by complainant David Mario Denis.

Denis had lodged an FIR with Indiranagar police station in Lucknow on October 29, 2022 against him. Denis has alleged that his firm had been engaged to do pre and post-exam work at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Agra University since 2014. The complainant alleged that when he approached Vinay Pathak over clearance of dues, he was summoned to the latter’s home. Dennis alleged that he met Vinay Pathak at his official residence in Kanpur in February 2022, where the latter demanded 15 per cent commission for the bills to be cleared. The complainant alleged that when he expressed inability to pay the commission, Vinay Pathak threatened him.

Pathak passed the first bill of INR 2.52 crore, with the second bill of INR 4.45 crore being passed in April 2022, and a third bill of INR 2.79 crore on September 1, 2022. Against these bills, a total commission of INR 1 crore 40 lakh was collected. The matter came to light during UP STF's investigation into alleged irregularities in writing the BMS exam copy at Agra University.
