Madras High Court has advised the Tamil Nadu government to make psychiatric counsellors available to each school which are attached to hostels.
In wake of the recurring suicide cases by school girls, the Madras High Court's Justice N Sathish Kumar has given the suggestion to the Tamil Nadu government that to curb such incidents, the government must ensure that psychiatric counsellors are available in every school attached to the hostel.
While hearing the case of P Ramalingam, the father of the 17-year-old school girl, who reportedly died by suicide at her school premises in Chinna Salem in Kallakurichi district on July 13, Justice N Sathish Kumar said "The government should ensure at least one such counsellor is appointed in each district."
State Public Prosecutor Hassan Mohammed Jinnah handed over a sealed cover, containing the progress made in the investigation of this case by the CB-CID, to the judge. He told the judge that the probe in the case was being carried in the right direction, as reported by NDTV.
"The students of the affected school are being provided with online teaching and steps are underway to conduct classes for the students of Classes 9 to 12 at nearby schools. The records and papers relating to the second autopsy will be forwarded to the doctors at JIPMER in Puducherry this evening," Jinnah added.

The court also said to media outlets and social media to not exaggerate these incidents and the consequential violence which can result in encouraging such suicides. The media should understand its responsibility towards society, he added. The matter stands adjourned till August 29.
