Assam to create over 800 new teacher posts for tea garden schools

Assam government is all set to create more than 800 new posts of teachers for tea garden schools. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that as many as 819 teachers’ posts will be created for schools in tea garden areas.

After the state cabinet meeting on March 22, 2023, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "In today’s #AssamCabinet meeting, we took several decisions pertaining to power sector, the appointment of teachers in tea gardens, constituting fund for repayment of lands, land settlement issues in municipal areas, etc."

The state cabinet has decided to create 819 posts of teachers in tea garden areas for improving the education sector of Assam. These posts will be created in 419 tea garden-managed LP schools, 2 tea garden-managed ME schools, and one tea garden-managed high school.

Other decisions taken in Assam Cabinet Meeting

To streamline the process of land settlement in municipal areas, DCs delegated the power of settlement of land in favour of PMAY-U beneficiaries, fixation of quantum of land for settlement and rationalisation of premium rates. As per the government, this will provide ownership of land to landless indigenous beneficiaries, landless indigenous people belonging to Economically Weaker Section/Low Income Group/Middle Income Group categories by way of settlement at a concessional rate of premium.

The cabinet also approved the raising of a RIDF loan of INR 441.86 from NABARD for rural infrastructure projects that include 24 rural road-cum-embankments in 17 districts, 66 minor irrigation projects in 29 districts, and 100 tea garden school construction in 20 districts. The fund will result in expeditious completion of the projects and significantly improve infrastructure in rural areas of the state.
